Backorder Release
Releasing a backorder means moving an order or products that was previously waiting because inventory was unavailable into the normal fulfillment process once the required inventory becomes available.
The Create Backorder Release modal provides a centralized interface for users to search, review, select and release backordered outbound orders or products. It allows users to separate backorders by customer selection and order-related search criteria and then process one or more selected records and release them either together or by splitting them based on products.

Search backorders:
It allows users to search outbounds whose status is backorder based on customer, product/SKU, customer order reference and order code.

- Customer: Users are required to select a customer to limit the backorders that are linked to the selected customer. Once a customer is selected, the list displays the applicable backorder records for that customer.
- Product: The Product dropdown allows users to search for backorders associated with a specific product. This is useful when inventory for a particular product becomes available and users want to identify the orders waiting for that product.
- Customer Order Ref: The Customer Order Ref field allows users to search for a specific customer order using its external/customer-provided order reference. For example, users can enter an order reference such as 56789 to locate the related backorders.
- Order Code: The order code field allows users to search using an order code. The order code may belong to different order sources, such as fulfillment order, sales order or stock order.
Backorder List (outbounds with backorder status):
The table displays the backorders matching the selected search criteria. It includes columns such as checkbox selection, created date/time, customer order ref, customer name, order code, outbound code, number of products, number of quantity and its status.

- Select checkbox: The first column contains checkboxes for selecting records. The header checkbox allows users to select or deselect all displayed records. Individual checkboxes allow users to select specific backorders. Multiple records can be selected for bulk release. The header checkbox can indicate a partial/indeterminate selection when only some records are selected.
- Created: Displays the date and time when the corresponding order/backorder record was created. This helps users understand how long the order has been waiting for fulfillment and identify older backorders.
- Customer Order Ref: Displays the customer's external order reference. This provides a reference that can be used to identify the order outside the fulfillment system.
- Customer: Displays the customer associated with the backorder.
- Order Code: Displays the code of the originating order. Depending on the source, this may represent a: Fulfillment Order Code, Sales Order Code, Stock Order Code.
- Outbound Code: Displays the outbound associated with the order, when available. This provides a direct relationship between the order and its shipping outbound.
- No of Products: Displays the number of unique products/SKUs included in the backorder. For example: Product A + Product B + Product C = 3 Products.
- No of Quantity: Displays the total quantity of products associated with the backorder.
- For example: Product A Qty 5 + Product B Qty 7 = 12 Quantity. This gives users a quick understanding of the total quantity that may be released.
- Status: Display the current status of the order.
Release All:

- The Release All button is used to release all currently selected eligible backorder products. Users first select the records by selecting the checkboxes. The system releases the applicable backordered products/quantities according to the available inventory.
Split by Products:
- This supports partial fulfillment, when only some products or quantities are available.

- Separates products or quantities within the selected orders so that available products can be fulfilled while unavailable products remain on backorder. Users select one or more backorder records then click on the “Split by products” button to separate orders or products that are available. For example, if an order contains three products and inventory is available for only two, Split By Products can be used to separate the available products for fulfillment while keeping the unavailable product on backorder.
Users can also release backorders at the time of adding product stock from the product details screen.

- Navigate to the product details > stock tab, click on the “Add Stock” button, it will open “Add Product Stock” modal as shown below.

- Once you enter stock details and save, it will open the “Backorder Release” dialog with auto-filled customer and product details.

- And based on the customer and product, all the backordered outbounds are listed in the table format.
